PT TRANSIT CUSTODIAN (1 Position)

Reporting to: Transit Supervisor
Department: Transit
Classification: PERMANENT Part Time; Unionized
Salary Range: $27.01 - $30.32/hour as per Schedule “A”
Hours of Work: Up to 24 hours per week as per the Collective Agreement.
Starting Date: April 2025

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Ensure transit buses are ready to operate and clean for use:
    • Check and maintain fuel levels while keeping accurate fuel logs,
    • Communicate mechanical issues to Transit Supervisor,
    • Sanitization/fogging of busses,
    • Replenish hand-sanitizer stations.
  2. Coordinate service changes with transit operators; drive buses to/from changeover point.
  3. Clean and maintain Transit facilities:
    • Ensure janitorial and cleaning supplies are stocked and ready for use,
    • Clean washrooms at two locations,
    • Recommend building repairs to Transit Supervisor,
    • Regular maintenance and repairs to transit shelters, bus stops and walkways.
  4. Escort contractors and deliveries to required areas.
  5. Unlock and secure the building as required.
  6. Adhere to Highway Traffic Act Regulations.
  7. Perform other duties as assigned from time to time.

Qualifications:

Essential
  • Must possess a valid Class “D” Driver’s License with “Z” endorsement and must maintain license in good standing.
  • Work with minimal supervision, follows the Rules and Regulations as established by the Transit Division.
Preferred
  • Experience with general repairs/maintenance or as a mechanic considered an asset.
  • Standard First Aid with CPR-C and AED certification.

Working Conditions:

  • This position works with cleaning chemicals.
  • This position requires standing, walking, and performing physical tasks for extended periods of time including heavy lifting and climbing ladders.
  • Subject to driving in adverse road conditions. 
  • May be requested to work additional hours.
