The Network Analyst with a Cyber Security focus is essential in securing and managing the City of Woodstock's IT infrastructure. This position ensures the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of municipal systems and data through proactive threat detection, remediation planning, and network optimization.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Network Security Design & Implementation:
- Develop and implement comprehensive network security architectures.
- Deploy firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection systems tailored to municipal needs.
- Monitoring, Log Analysis & Incident Response:
- Regularly review and analyze logs from firewalls and switches to identify potential threats.
- Utilize centralized logging solutions (e.g., SIEM tools) for event correlation and insight generation.
- Lead incident response efforts and perform root cause analysis on security breaches.
- Policy Development & Enforcement:
- Works directly with the clerks department to draft security policies, procedures, and standards aligned with legislative requirements.
- Ensure compliance with provincial and federal regulations.
- Risk Management & Remediation:
- Develop and maintain the organization’s risk profile, assessing and updating regularly.
- Create comprehensive remediation plans to address identified vulnerabilities.
- Change Management Process:
- Build and maintain a robust change management framework.
- Document, review, and approve all network and security changes according to protocols.
- Ticket Response and Resolution:
- Manage and resolve network and security-related tickets efficiently.
- Provide technical support and guidance to city staff, ensuring prompt resolution.
- Education & Training:
- Educate staff on security best practices and emerging threats.
- Develop training materials and conduct workshops for municipal employees.
- AI Governance Structure:
- Manage and build the AI governance framework to ensure responsible usage of AI technologies.
- Establish policies that reflect ethical standards and compliance with relevant regulations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- Certifications such as CISSP, CEH, or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years in networking and cybersecurity roles.
- Proven experience with Palo Alto, HPE/Aruba Switching configuration, or other Major Network Systems.
- Fluent in switch and firewall configuration.
- Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for automation and management tasks.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 management and security tools.
- Strong knowledge of security frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO/IEC 27001).
- Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
Working Conditions:
- Usual public office conditions
- May require occasional travel to city sites and participation in on-call rotations
- Ability to work extended hours during security incidents
