Salary Range: $117,205.42- $139,366.89
Hours of Work: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Deputy Chief Building Official works in collaboration with the Manager of Building and Facilities in the administration of the Building core functions. 
  • Collaborates in the development of the five-year capital works plans and objectives, additional this position supports in the management of projects undertaken for the City of Woodstock by City staff using outside consultants and contractors for municipal builidings.  This position is also responsible for review and issuance of all building and demolition permits under the authority of the The Building Code Act (Chief Building Official) and responsible for the enforcement of the Property Standards By-Law.
  • Assist the Manager of Building and Facilities to direct and control building, development, and to act as a Chief Building Official in his/her absence by supervising the following functions:
    • Design and supervision of construction, alteration, and repairs to city buildings.
    • By-law Enforcement
    • Building Division
    • Facilities Department
    • Advise Manager of Building and Facilities on proposed policy changes.
    • Responds to public inquiries and complaints.
  • Achieves a balance of technical, managerial and staff performance to achieve organizational goals and objectives – provides focus and direction to staff to maximize productivity.
  • Manages project development and financial monitoring aligned with the functions and obligations outlined with the Building Division.
  • Accountable for certain enforcement and administrative functions to the Corporation of the City of Woodstock.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Essential
  • Graduate of an Architectural Science or Civil Engineering Technologist program from a recognized Community College.
  • Minimum 7 years relevant experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of the provisions of the Ontario Building Code, Provincial Offences Act, Woodstock Municipal Code, Fire Code, Zoning By-Law and various related technical standards and other Provincial and Federal Regulations dealing with building construction.
  • Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
  • Possess strong Organizational and management and supervisory skills; ability to apply knowledge and to encourage positive staff influence and motivation.
  • Ability to determine priorities and to manage time effectively.  To work conscientiously, using resourcefulness, ingenuity, and suggestions for improvement of the Corporation.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and public relations skills with particular emphasis on the ability to explain technical data to non-technical people
  • Requires a valid “G” Ontario driver’s license
Preferred
  • CBCO Designation
