Job Summary

Are you looking for a hands-on role that allows you to get outside and engage with the community? We're hiring Summer Students to assist with the setup and operation of special events. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a dedicated team on the Woodstock 125th Anniversary celebrations and various city-run and external events. This role is an excellent fit for students with a passion for community engagement who love working outdoors. You will gain valuable hands-on experience and contribute significantly to Woodstock's milestone celebrations.

Responsibilities

Event Setup and Teardown:
  • Set up and take down equipment, tents, tables, chairs, signage, fencing and cable mats; for events such as Victoria Day, Canada Day, Streetfest, City Beautiful Awards, Cowapolooza and 125th Anniversary events.
  • Provide support and prepare facilities for external events such as community fundraisers, picnics, runs and large bookings.
Event Operation:
  • Provide on-site support during events, working during evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness of event spaces, including washrooms, and collect and dispose of garbage and litter as directed.
  • Support environmental stewardship through eco-friendly practices such as proper waste segregation and recycling initiatives.
Parks Support:
  • Collaborate with Parks staff to support general maintenance tasks.
  • Operate machinery such as string trimmers, leaf blowers, push mowers, and vehicles
  • Assist with general maintenance of city facilities including parks, pavilions, washrooms, turf and horticulture areas.
Customer Service and Safety:
  • Interact with event attendees and provide inclusive, friendly customer service.
  • Gather informal feedback from event attendees to aid in continual improvement of future events.
  • Assist with event-related administrative tasks.
  • Perform routine inspections of park and city facilities to identify and report issues.
Perform other related duties as directed by the Manager of Special Events, Supervisor of Parks or designate.

Qualifications

Essential:
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays,
  • Minimum Grade 12 and must be returning to a post-secondary school,
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions and be physically able to perform duties,
  • Must have Class G2 Ontario Driver’s License in good standing.
Preferred:
  • Previous experience in event setup or park maintenance.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR training,
  • Training with MTO Book 7 for Temporary Conditions, and proven knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other applicable legislation.
Working Conditions
  • Scheduled 40-hour workweek, which includes weekends and alternate shift hours to accommodate event schedules,
  • Will be required to work in adverse weather conditions,
  • May be required to work overtime.
